Stolarz will start Toronto's season opener vs. Montreal on Wednesday.

With Joseph Woll (personal) away from the team, Toronto's crease should almost exclusively belong to Stolarz, starting with their season-opening matchup on Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens. The 31-year-old Stolarz was excellent when healthy in 2024-25, posting a superb 2.14 GAA, .926 SV%, and four shutouts in 34 appearances (21-8-3), but his season was derailed due to injuries. Toronto enters its matchup on Wednesday as -167 home favorites against Montreal.

Cowan has been recalled from the Toronto Marlies (AHL).

Cowan was never really expected to make Toronto out of training camp and is expected to be a healthy scratch despite being called up before their season-opening game on Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens. The 19-year-old Cowan was Toronto's 28th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

Woll (personal) is progressing but still does not have a timetable to return to Toronto.

Woll has been away from the Maple Leafs for the past two weeks, tending to personal matters, and has no timeline to return. Woll started in exactly half of Toronto's games last season, posting a 2.73 GAA and .909 SV%, and was likely poised to see similar totals in 2025-26. The Maple Leafs claimed Cayden Primeau off waivers yesterday, but the crease should belong almost exclusively to Anthony Stolarz until Woll returns.

Toronto has claimed Sammy Blais off waivers from Montreal.

Blais spent the entirety of the 2024-25 season in the AHL, tallying 40 points (14G / 26A) in 51 games with the Abbotsford Canucks. The hard-hitting 29-year-old forward will hope for more exposure at the NHL level after being claimed off waivers on Monday by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Blais' most productive season was in 2022-23 when he scored 25 points (9G / 16A) and recorded 238 hits in 71 outings.

Laughton is week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Laughton was limited to only four points (2G / 2A) in 20 games with the Maple Leafs after being acquired before last season's trade deadline. The Maple Leafs will hope that an offseason helps the 31-year-old acclimate to the team's style, allowing him to return to the production he had in his previous two full seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers, when he scored 82 points (31G / 51A) in 160 games. That said, his season debut with the Maple Leafs will have to wait as he will likely be unavailable when they hit the ice next week.

Toronto has locked up its starting goaltender for four more seasons after they announced Sunday that they have signed Anthony Stolarz to a four-year extension worth $3.75 million AAV ($15M total). The 31-year-old is entering his 9th NHL season and 2nd in Toronto after setting career-highs in games started (33), wins (21), SV% (.926 SV%), and shutouts (4) last season.

Benoit (upper-body) has yet to return to the ice with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Benoit has yet to return to Toronto's training camp after it was announced that the defenseman was still potentially dealing with an upper-body injury that lingered from last season. Toronto is hopeful to have its sixth defenseman back before its opening game on October 8th vs Montreal, after he appeared in all but four games in 2024-25, putting up a goal, 10 points, and a +12 plus/minus.

Woll has taken a personal leave of absence from the Maple Leafs.

The team announced Tuesday that Woll will be away from the club for personal reasons. No timeline has been provided for his return or whether his absence will extend into the regular season. If he’s unavailable, Dennis Hildeby is expected to step in as Anthony Stolarz’s backup to start the year.

Joseph Woll
Domi (lower-body) has been a limited participant in the first two days of training camp.

Entering his third season in Toronto, Max Domi has been limited throughout the first couple days of training camp due to a lower-body injury. The 30-year-old forward is entering his 11th NHL season after a down year in 2024-25, where he had eight goals, 33 points and 93 SOG in 74 games played. He is expected to return to a complimentary role with the Maple Leafs yet again in 2024-25.

Toronto has signed Dennis Hildeby to a three-year contract extension worth $841,667 AAV.

After making his first six career starts with the Maple Leafs in 2024-25, Dennis Hildeby has earned himself a three-year contract extension worth $841,667 AAV. The 24-year-old is expected to start 2025-26 with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) as Toronto's third goalie on the depth chart after posting a lacklustre 3-3-0 record, .878 SV% and 3.33 GAA with the Maple Leafs last season.

Toronto has signed William Villeneuve to a one-year, two-way contract extension.

William Villeneuve will return to the Toronto Marlies (AHL) for a fourth straight season after signing a one-year, two-way contract with the Maple Leafs on Tuesday. The 23-year-old puck-moving defender was Toronto's 2020 4th-round pick (122nd overall) but has yet to make his first NHL appearance despite solid offensive numbers every season with the Marlies. He is expected to start 2025-26 as one of the Marlies' main defenders after his four-goal, 40-point season last year across 55 games played.

The Maple Leafs have signed Nick Robertson to a one-year extension worth $1.825M.

Robertson played primarily in a bottom-6 role again in 2024-25, leading to just 22 points (15G / 7A) in 69 games while averaging just 12:00 TOI per game. With many offseason additions, like Matias Maccelli, Nicolas Roy and Dakota Joshua, Robertson will once again find himself in a battle for playing time in the Maple Leafs' bottom-6 in 2025-26.

Toronto has acquired Dakota Joshua from Vancouver for a 2028 4th Round Pick.

Toronto continued to add to their forward depth on Thursday after the team announced they have traded a 2028 4th-round pick to Vancouver for left-winger, Dakota Joshua. The 28-year-old is in the 2nd year of a four-year, $13 million contract ($3.25M AAV) and should slide in nicely on Toronto's third line with his physical play style. Vancouver will be happy to shed the cap space after Joshua put up a disappointing seven goals and 14 points in 57 games played last season, while Toronto will be hoping he can return to his 2023-24 form (18G/32Pts) with a full, healthy training camp.

Dakota Joshua
Toronto has signed Miroslav Holinka to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Toronto has signed their 2024 5th round pick (151st overall) on Tuesday after agreeing to a three-year, entry-level contract with Miroslav Holinka. The 19-year-old Czech forward spent 2024-25 as an import for Edmonton (WHL) and succeeded in his inaugural North American season with 19 goals and 45 points in 47 games played. He is expected to return to Edmonton for the 2025-26 season.

Toronto has acquired Henry Thrun from San Jose for Ryan Reaves.

Toronto added to its defensive depth late Thursday night after they acquired Henry Thrun from San Jose for 38-year-old enforcer Ryan Reaves. Thrun is a 24-year-old mobile defenseman entering his third full NHL season. He put up two goals and 12 points despite an ugly -23 plus/minus across 60 games with the Sharks in 2024-25. He will battle for one of Toronto's final defensive spots to start the season.

Henry Thrun
The Maple Leafs signed Vinni Lettieri to a one-year deal worth $775K.

Vinni Lettieri will join his third NHL team in three years after signing a one-year, $775,000 contract with Toronto on Wednesday. The 30-year-old forward is expected to compete for a bottom-six spot in training camp after putting up three goals and five points in 26 games with Boston in 2024-25.

Hours after being acquired from Montreal for a 2026 seventh-round pick, Cayden Primeau signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with Carolina. The 25-year-old has appeared briefly for Montreal for the last six seasons, making 11 appearances in 2024-25, posting a 2-3-1 record, 4.70 GAA and .836 SV%. He will likely begin the season with Charlotte (AHL) in the minors, providing Carolina with goaltender depth throughout the season.
