Soucy has missed the Canucks' last five games due to a lower-body injury and was placed on the long-term injured reserve Friday. The 23-year-old centre appeared in 68 games with the Canucks in 2022-23 as a rookie, and had four goals, 16 points and 18 PIMs.
McWard had a goal, three assists, four PIMs and a +5 plus/minus through 15 games with Abbotsford (AHL) but has been recalled for the first time this season to Vancouver. The 22-year-old undrafted defensemen made his NHL debut in 2022-23 straight from Ohio State (NCAA) and had a goal and six SOG in a small five game showing to close out the year.
Demko will unsurprisingly get the nod in Colorado for the Canucks on Wednesday. The 27-year-old netminder has been an integral part of the Canucks' early season success. He most recently turned away 27 of the 28 shots he faced in Monday's 3-1 victory over the Kraken. Demko owns an impressive 9-4-0 record on the season to go along with a .929 SV% and 2.12 GAA. He draws a tough assignment on Wednesday with the Canucks being +135 road underdogs to the Avalanche.

In a move relating to Linus Karlsson being sent down, Hirose was recalled from the Abbotsford Canucks of the AHL on Friday. Hirose played the first two games of the season with Vancouver, tallying zero points, three hits, and four blocked shots.
Karlsson was impressive in his season debut, going without a point, but tallying three shots, one hit, and a +1 plus/minus in only 11:54 time-on-ice. Despite his strong performance, Karlsson has been reassigned to Abbotsford of the AHL, a sign that the team is hopeful Andrei Kuzmenko will be able to return to the lineup on Saturday.
Hirose appeared in the Canucks' previous two games but has been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL) Thursday as Vancouver is in need of a forward after Andrei Kuzmenko (undisclosed) was pronounced out. The 24-year-old defensemen returns to the AHL, where he failed to pick up a point in 11 games prior to his promotion.
Karlsson was awarded the greatest birthday gift Thursday as he was recalled from Abbotsford (AHL) and is expected to make his NHL debut vs. Calgary. The 24-year-old winger will replace Andrei Kuzmenko (undisclosed) who will miss Thursday. He had two goals, 11 points and six PIMs in 13 games played with Abbotsford.
Demko will be the starter for the Cancuks on Wednesday and will look to build on a tremendous start to the season. Among all goalies who have played at least 10 games, Demko ranks first in goals against average (1.96) and save percentage (.935). He will look to pad those already impressive stats against a New York Islanders team that has lost five straight games (0-4-1), failed to score more than two goals in four straight, and ranks 31st in the league offensively (2.36 GF / GP).
