Toronto has signed Alexander Steeves to a one-year, two-way contract extension.

Toronto added to its forward depth on Wednesday as they signed 24-year-old undrafted forward Alex Steeves to a one-year, two-way contract extension. The 6'0" centre has appeared in seven NHL games for the Maple Leafs in the last three seasons but spent the vast majority of his time with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) since joining from Notre Dame (NCAA) in 2021-22. Steeves had an impressive AHL campaign in 2023-24 with 27 goals, 57 points and 26 PIMs in 65 games played.

Steeves made his season debut on Tuesday, logging 10:14 time-on-ice, one shot, and six hits. He will be a healthy scratch on Thursday, indicating that one or both of Mitch Marner and John Tavares will likely return to the lineup from illness.

Steeves was recalled from the Toronto Marlies (AHL) on an emergency basis with both John Tavares and Mitch Marner set to miss Tuesday's game to an illness, and will slot right into the lineup on the Leafs' fourth line. Steeves has 18 goals and 20 assists in 38 AHL games this season.

The 23-year-old has six career NHL games under his belt and has an assist and five SOG while averaging only 7:55 TOI.
