Eakin is expected to make his Jets debut on Sunday.

Eakin was acquired from the Golden Knights on Friday and is expected to play Sunday in Buffalo. Head coach Paul Maurice said he will play centre but did not disclose which line he will play on. Eakin has scored four goals with six assists (10 points) in 41 games this season.

Eakin was hurt in last Friday's game vs. the Coyotes on a hit from forward Brad Richardson and did not return. Head coach Gerard Gallant told reporters that Eakin will miss at least a couple of weeks and Nicolas Roy was called-up from Chicago (AHL) and will take Eakin's place in the lineup. Cody Glass will shift back to centre on the third line to fill the hole left by Eakin's absence.

Eakin has missed the first three games of the season with an undisclosed injury but returned to practice in a non-contact jersey on Wednesday. This is a step in the right direction for Eakin, who will likely be cleared for contact in the coming days.

Head coach Gerard Gallant said that Eakin is “doing well” but probably won’t play Tuesday vs. the Bruins. Vegas plays four games next week, so monitor Eakin’s status heading towards Thursday’s game in Arizona and into their back-to-back over the weekend.

Eakin has missed the first three games of the season but will replace Paul Stastny (lower-body) in the lineup tonight vs. the Capitals. Eakin had 11 goals and 16 assists (27 points) in 80 games for Vegas a season ago. He is expected to skate with Ryan Carpenter and Oscar Lindberg tonight.

Eakin landed on injured reserve to open the season but was back on the ice in a regular jersey for Tuesday’s practice. This is the next step in Eakin’s return to the Golden Knights lineup, but he remains questionable for Wednesday and Thursday’s back-to-back.

Eakin has missed the last week of training camp with a lower-body injury and has been moved to injured reserve to create an open roster spot for a healthy skater. With Eakin expected to miss the start of the season, Ryan Carpenter or Oscar Lindberg will centre the Golden Knights’ third line.

Eakin was suspended for four games for his hit on Henrik Lundqvist, but is set to return to the lineup tonight. Eakin has had a tough season, collecting just a single assist in 14 games. Jason Dickinson was sent back to Texas (AHL) to make room for Eakin.
