Barron was acquired in a trade that sent Alexandre Carrier to the Nashville Predators last week. The 23-year-old Barron, a first-round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, had 13 goals and 18 assists in just 109 career games spread out across parts of four seasons with Montreal.

Montreal made its secodn defensive signing of the afternoon on Tuesday as they gave Justin Barron a two-year, $2.3 million contract ($1,150,000 AAV). The 22-year-old was acquired from Colorado in a trade which sent Artturi Lehkonen the other way two seasons ago. Barron appeared in 48 games in 2023-24 and had a career high seven goals, 13 points and 16 PIMs.

Barron has been a healthy scratch for the Canadiens' previous six games but will draw back into the lineup from Chris Wideman Tuesday vs. Pittsburgh. The 21-year-old has three goals, six assists, 24 SOG, eight PIMs and a -2 plus/minus through 24 games this season.
