Comtois replaced Evgeny Kuznetsov in Game 2 while Kuznetsov was out with an undisclosed injury. However, Kuznetsov is back for Game 3, so Comtois will head back to the press box.

Comtois cleared through waivers after signing with the Hurricanes on Monday. The 25-year-old Comtois spent the last five seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, tallying 86 points (38G / 48A), 193 penalty minutes, and 373 hits in 210 games.

Comtois has been playing with the Chicago Wolves (AHL), where he has 12 goals and 16 assists (28 points) in 45 games. His play earned him a contract with the Hurricanes through the rest of the 2023-24 season. HE last played with the Ducks in 2022-23, posting 19 points (9G / 10A) in 64 games.

Comtois has missed the last three games with a lower-body injury and has returned to California to be re-evaluated. According to head coach Dallas Eakins, "he’s had a lower-body (issue) going on and can’t seem to get past it. We just thought it was better to get him home and looked at a little deeper."

Comtois played just 8:19 TOI on Tuesday but will come back out of the lineup on Thursday. Sam Steel will replace Comtois, as he'll be a healthy scratch for the second time in three games.
