"We're doing different things on the ice and off the ice," the coach said Saturday. "So we're going both ways with it – so a couple days off the ice and we'll go from there."

Green not skating with the club is not an encouraging sign. We would advise fantasy hockey owners to prepare for the worst and expect Green back at some point next calendar year.

Mike Green
Green had skated four straight days – light workouts, nothing too strenuous – and said Thursday there was nothing new to report as far as an update.

Green not skating this morning is an indication that he is very far from returning. At this point it looks doubtful that he plays again in the calendar year.

Mike Green (groin) and Jay Beagle (concussion) both skated Monday and Tuesday, a team spokesman said. There is no timetable for either to return to the lineup.

If you own Green, all you can do is wait for him to get back into practice. The elite defender has only played in eight of the team's 26 games.

If you own Green, all you can do is wait for him to get back into practice. The elite defender has only played in eight of the team's 23 games.

Mike Green skated for a third time in the past four days on Tuesday morning prior to the main group taking the ice for their skate. Green has missed the past eight games with a strained right groin muscle. He did not speak to reporters.

Green continues to skate which is a positive sign. However, until he practices with the team there is no firm timetable for his return.

Asked on Thursday if Green might join the team at some point, Coach Bruce Boudreau told reporters in Winnipeg, “I really doubt it.”

Green will at least miss the next two games. Considering he was only supposed to miss a few days we can only assume he had a setback.

Boudreau's tone Saturday seemed to be less optimistic, though he did not change from the day-to-day prognosis.

Green's status remains indefinite although the team continues to label him day-to-day. His absence from practice is certainly a telling sign.

“It’s a different soreness,” Boudreau said. “At least it’s not the ankle, so that’s good news. I’m pretty confident (it’s not serious). I talked to him already about it and it’s a day-to-day thing. Not a three-week day-to-day thing. It’s an actual day-to-day thing.”

Don't expect Green to play against the Devils tomorrow but he probably draws in within the week. Expect him to be fine with a bit of rest.

Mike Green, officially, remains a question mark, though there are possible signs that the All-Star defenseman could return to the Capitals lineup either Friday at the Devils or home against them. Green took part in yet another full practice Thursday and worked the entire time with partner Roman Hamrlik.

Practicing full time with Roman Hamrlik is an excellent sign that Green will draw back in. Check back tomorrow for an official confirmation on his availability.

Boudreau had been hopeful but not overconfident about Green playing this weekend, either Friday at the New Jersey Devils or Saturday at home against them. The All-Star defenseman taking part in a tough workout Wednesday seems like a good indication.

Green could return this weekend which would be a boon to the Caps overall play. Check back on Friday and/or Saturday for a firm update on his status.

Mike Green was on the ice with his teammates this time as he attempts to get back into the lineup with a right ankle injury.

Green was supposed to return after a solid practice but it seems like he suffered a minor setback. Stay tuned for a further update on his status.
