Guenin will be out another "seven to 10 days" with a bruised ankle. "It's a bruise, it's not broken, but it's a pretty bad bruise," Patrick Roy said.

Guenin has not played since January 4, but could return to the blueline next week. He has four assists and 14 PIMs in 38 games this season.

The Avalanche have signed Nate Guenin to a two-year contract extension.

Guenin was a New York Rangers' 4th round pick (127th overall) in 2002. This season he has recorded four assists in 38 games with the Avs. He has a total of eight points (2G / 6A) in 70 career NHL games with the Avalanche, Ducks, Blue Jackets, Penguins and Flyers.

Avalanche defensemen Nick Holden and Nate Guenin are going to alternate lineup spots in the first two games of the season. Guenin will go Wednesday vs. Anaheim, while Holden goes Friday vs. Nashville.

Guenin is a 30-year-old blueliner who is currently with his fifth NHL team. He was a member of the Flyers, Penguins, Blue Jackets and Ducks organizations prior to arriving in Colorado. He has two goals and two assists in 32 NHL games since being drafted 127th overall in 2002.
