Georgiev is expected to start vs. Los Angeles on Wednesday.

After a stretch of only playing one of eight games, resulting from a horrendous start of allowing three or more goals in his first five games (1-3-0) and posting a .810 SV%, Georgiev has started three straight (2-1-0), allowing seven goals combined and posting a solid .921 SV%. The Avalanche are riding a two-game winning streak and enter the action on Wednesday as -139 home favorites against a Los Angeles Kings club that has lost two of their past three (1-2-0).

Samuelsson (lower-body) is considered week-to-week.

Samuelsson made his return to the lineup from a three-game absence on Monday but exited the contest after only 6:49 time-on-ice due to a lower-body injury. Before his injury, the 24-year-old Samuelsson was averaging 16:52 time-on-ice and had one point (1G / 0A) in 12 games this season. He is expected to be out of the lineup on a week-to-week basis.

Mattias Samuelsson
Luukkonen (undisclosed) missed practice on Wednesday and is considered day-to-day.

Luukkonen struggled in the Sabres' previous outing, allowing four goals on 18 shots (.778 SV%), before being relieved by Devon Levi in an eventual 7-5 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. Luukkonen has a 2.83 GAA and .903 SV% in 12 contests (6-4-1) and had started five straight (3-2-0). If Luukkonen misses any time, expect Levi to control the Sabres crease in the interim.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen
Thompson (undisclosed) missed practice on Wednesday and is considered day-to-day.

Thompson scored a goal on Monday, extending his goal-scoring streak to four games, but exited the contest after only 6:49 time-on-ice due to a lower-body injury. The 27-year-old Thompson has been off to a terrific start to the 2024-25 campaign, with 18 points (11G / 7A) in 15 games, and will be sorely missed by the Sabres if he misses any time.

Lyon (lower-body) returned to practice in full on Tuesday after missing the last two games.

Lyon appears to be nearing a return to the lineup after returning to practice on Tuesday, which will likely result in Ville Husso being sent back down to the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL). The Red Wings have lost two straight, splitting starts between Husso and Cam Talbot. They return to action on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Georgiev will start on Monday vs. Nashville.

An atrocious start to the season resulted in Georgiev only playing one game during an eight-game stretch from mid-October to early November. However, after two serviceable efforts (1-1-0), allowing five total goals and posting a .915 SV%, the Avalanche will turn to Georgiev for a third straight contest on Monday night. Colorado enters Monday's contest as -144 home favorites against a Nashville Predators club in last place in the Central Division (5-9-1).

Lyon (lower-body) is out on Friday in Toronto.

Lyon was the expected starting goalie for the Red Wings on Friday, but will be sidelined due to a lower-body injury that is not a long-term concern, according to head coach Derek Lalonde. Cam Talbot will start in Lyon's place on Friday and Ville Husso, freshly recalled from Grand Rapids (AHL), will start on Saturday.

Luukkonen will start on Thursday in New York.

The Sabres will roll with Luukkonen in the crease for a third straight game on Thursday when they visit the New York Rangers. Luukkonen was tremendous in his previous outing, saving 37 of 38 shots (.974 SV%) in a 5-1 win over the Ottawa Senators. The 25-year-old Luukkonen has taken the reins of the Sabres' crease despite a modest 2.92 GAA and .904 SV% through nine games (4-4-1). The Sabres enter the action on Thursday as +175 road underdogs against a Ranger club riding a two-game winning streak.

Georgiev will start on Thursday in Winnipeg.

For only the second time since October 18th, a nine-game stretch, the Avalanche will turn to Georgiev between the pipes. Jared Bednar and the Avalanche coaching staff will hope the off-time helped Georgiev regroup after a horrid start to the 2024-25 season, posting an abysmal 4.62 GAA and .822 SV% in six games (1-4-0). To make matters more concerning, Colorado faces off against a league-leading Winnipeg Jets club (12-1-0) that leads the league offensively with 62 goals in 13 games (4.8 GF / GP).

Benson (lower-body) is expected to return on Tuesday vs. Ottawa.

Benson has not played the last five games due to a lower-body injury but will return to the lineup on Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators. Benson had played six of seven games to start the season for the Sabres before his injury, scoring zero points and recording a -4 plus/minus. In a corresponding move, the Sabres have reassigned Jiri Kulich to the Rochester Americans (AHL).

Zach Benson
Luukkonen will start on Tuesday vs. Ottawa.

The Sabres will turn to Luukkonen between the pipes on Tuesday for the sixth time in the last seven games. Luukkonen has lost two straight but was solid in his previous outing, allowing two goals on 23 shots (.913 SV%) in a 2-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. The 25-year-old Luukkonen will look to improve on his 3.16 GAA and .893 SV% through eight games this season (3-4-1). The Sabres enter the action on Tuesday as slight -100 underdogs against the Ottawa Senators, sporting a 6-5-0 record through 11 games this season.
