Pesce underwent should surgery and his recovery time is 4-to-6 months.

Pesce will obviously miss the rest of the 2020 season, including playoffs, and turn his focus to getting ready for training camp 2021. The Hurricanes will have to try and navigate through the playoffs without two of their top-3 defensemen but they added Brady Skjei at the deadline to help ease the loss of Pesce.

Thatcher Demko will be the Canucks' starter until further notice, suggesting he could start the next eight-to-nine games in a row (with two back-to-backs).

The Hurricanes have placed Dougie Hamilton on LTIR.

The Hurricanes were busy on trade deadline day to they had to make some room and they did so by moving Dougie Hamilton to LTIR. To help make up for the loss of Hamilton and most recently Brett Pesce, the Hurricanes used the cap space to acquired Brady Skjei and Sami Vatanen.

Markstrom will return to Vancouver to be evaluated; expected to miss 3-to-4 weeks with a lower-body injury.

Markstrom was hurt in the Boston game on Saturday and underwent an MRI on Monday morning. He'll return to Vancouver to be re-evaluated and the Canucks will likely return a more detailed timetable after that. With Markstrom out, Thatcher Demko will serve as the Canucks' No.1 netminder and they made a trade for Louis Domingue today to give them a No.2 netminder.
