


Varlamov served as Calvin Pickard’s backup last Friday, but tonight he makes his first start since January 22nd. Varlamov has struggled mightily this season, going 6-14-0 with a 3.33 GAA and .901 SV% in 21 games. The Avalanche are a terrible team, which is going to limit his upside in the second half.

Schneider allowed one goal on 27 shots in the Devils’ loss to the Panthers on Monday. Schneider has gone 2-2-1 with a 1.63 GAA and .945 SV% in January, a huge upgrade in his play from his first three months of the year. He’ll face the Oilers for the second time in a week—he allowed two goals on 43 shot in a 2-1 OT loss to Edmonton last Saturday.

Tonight he will face the Maple Leafs for the second time this season—he allowed four goals on 31 shots in a 5-4 shootout win in late-November.


Schneider stopped all 22 shots that he faced in the Devils’ shutout win over the Bruins last night. This was a huge performance from Schneider, who had a very difficult month of December. Schneider has struggled mightily on the road this season, registering just one win in 15 games while posting a 3.25 GAA and .898 SV%.

Schneider allowed four goals on 28 shots in the Devils’ loss to the Penguins on December 27th. Keith Kinkaid started the last two games, but Schneider will get back in goal tonight vs. the Bruins. Schneider really struggled in December, going 2-6-2 with a 3.48 GAA and .887 SV% in 10 starts last month. He allowed two goals on 36 shots in a 2-1 loss in his first game vs. Boston.

Schneider allowed four goals on 39 shots in the Devils’ loss in Pittsburgh before the break. The Devils will take on the Penguins again tonight and Schneider will look to turn in a better performance. The 30-year-old has had a tough month, going 2-5-2 with a 3.42 GAA and .890 SV% in nine December starts.


Varlamov allowed two goals on 33 shots in Colorado’s win in Minnesota on Tuesday. It was a solid return to the crease for Varlamov, who missed the three previous games with a groin injury. Varlamov has now stopped 82 of the last 85 shots (.965 SV%). One of those starts games against the Maple Leafs, who he faces tonight—Varlamov stopped 51 of 52 shots in a win.

Schneider surrendered five goals on 32 shots in the Devils’ 5-1 loss to the Predators on Tuesday. Schneider has lost five in a row while posting an terrible 4.16 GAA and .876 SV%. It has been a rough season for Schneider, who will face the Flyers tonight. Philadelphia has been great as of late and the way Schneider is struggling…look elsewhere tonight.

Varlamov stopped 51 of 52 shots in Colorado’s win in Toronto on December 11th. Varlamov missed the next three games with a minor groin injury, but will be back in tonight in Minnesota. The Russian netminder has gone 3-6-0 with a 3.59 AA and .895 SV% on the road this season and will be in tough against a hot Wild team.

Schneider allowed two goals on 27 shots in the Devils’ loss in New York on Sunday. Schneider has lost his last four starts while posting a 3.95 GAA and .883 SV%. It has been a tough season for Schneider, but his troubles have come on the road. Tonight he starts on home-ice where he has gone 8-0-1 with a 2.28 GAA and .920 SV%.

Varlamov missed the last three games with a groin injury, but was back at practice on Monday and is set to return to the lineup on Tuesday. The Avalanche did not name a starting goalie, but Spencer Martin was reassigned to San Antonio (AHL), so Varlamov is definitely available.
