Ilya Samsonov will start Friday in Columbus.

Samsonov has served as the backup to the Maple Leafs' third-string goaltender, Martin Jones, in four of the last games but will get the opportunity to reassert himself in a favourable matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday. Samsonov has been abysmal when called upon lately, allowing four or more goals in each of his last three contests (0-1-2), posting an ugly .819 SV%. Samsonov allowed six goals on 35 shots (.829 SV%) in a 6-5 overtime loss to the Blue Jackets two weeks ago.

Vegas Golden Knights have signed Ben Hutton to a two-year, $1.95 million ($975,000 AAV) contract extension.

Hutton is nearing 500 games played (496) in his ninth NHL season and has signed a two-year, $1.95 million contract ($975,000) with Vegas Friday. The 30-year-old defenceman has almost surpassed his games played from last season at the quarter point of the 2023-24 season and has a goal, seven assists, 45 SOG, 15 PIMs and a +7 plus/minus in 28 games played.

Schmid will start against the Oilers on Thursday.

Schmid has started three of the last five games for the Devils and will start again on Thursday after spending the first portion of the season as the clear backup to Vitek Vanecek. Since taking on a larger role in late November, Schmid has a 4-4-0 record while posting a .905 SV%, a vast improvement over the .885 SV% he sported in the six games leading up to it (1-3-1). The Devils have a challenging matchup on Thursday against the Edmonton Oilers but are still -111 home favourites despite losing to them 4-1 less than two weeks ago.

Samsonov will start in Buffalo on Thursday.

Samsonov has lost two straight contests and, as a result, served as the backup to Martin Jones in the last two games for the Maple Leafs. That said, Samsonov will return to the crease on Thursday in an attempt to get back into the win column. Samsonov has been extremely inconsistent all season, highlighted by his last two appearances (0-0-2), in which he allowed 10 goals combined and sported an ugly .844 SV%. The Maple Leafs are coming off their first regulation loss in nearly a month and are -135 road favourites against a Buffalo Sabres team that was handily defeated 9-4 on Tuesday.

Adin Hill (undisclosed) will be out Tuesday and is expected to miss the next three games after not travelling on Vegas' road trip.

Hill returned to action after a multi-week absence on Sunday but exited the game in the first period with an undisclosed injury. It is unclear if his current ailment is related to his previous injury, but he will be out of the lineup for at least the next three games as Logan Thompson will continue to see the lion's share of action between the pipes in the interim.

Kardan Korczak (lower body) was placed on the Injured Reserve.

Korczak has been unavailable since last Tuesday (12/12) due to a lower-body injury that will keep him out on a week-to-week basis and was placed on the Injured Reserve Monday. The 22-year-old Korczak has quietly had a productive season from the Vegas blue line, posting seven points (1G / 6A) in 15 games while averaging 16:29 time-on-ice.

Hill has not played since November 30th when he exited the game with a lower-body injury, but appears to be nearing a return about participating in practice on Thursday and will travel on the teams upcoming road trip. Ilya Samsonov was in the starter's crease at Thursday's morning skate.

Samsonov served as the backup in the back end of a back-to-back in the Maple Leafs last game but will return to the crease on Thursday and likely be the undisputed starting goalie for the team as long as Joseph Woll is out of the lineup. The 26-year-old Samsonov has been wildly inconsistent this season but has been significantly better lately, collecting points in each of his last five games (3-0-2) and boasting a .916 SV%. The Maple Leafs are overwhelming -239 home favourites on Thursday against the Columbus Blue Jackets, who have lost four of their last five (1-3-1).
