Joonas Korpisalo was forced to leave Sunday's shootout loss with a lower-body injury and Kivlenieks' recall suggests that Korpisalo will miss some time. Kivlenieks has gone 7-6-2 with a 3.04 GAA and .894 SV% in 15 AHL games this season. This leaves the Blue Jackets with an inexperienced goaltending tandem. The 23-year-old Kivlenieks has never played in the NHL and 25-year-old Elvis Merzlikins has not won a game in his first 10 career NHL games.
