It was the first time in nine games that he allowed more than two goals, but it is hard to fault him when he faces 41 shots. He has been great in the last month and a half and is a must-start vs. the Sabres.

Tonight will be his sixth start on no rest—in the first five he has gone 2-3-0 with a 2.57 GAA And .914 SV%. Be wary of his matchup on a back-to-back.
Varlamov allowed five goals on 30 shots in the Avs’ loss to the Rangers on Thursday. Despite losing four in a row and allowing 10 goals in his last two starts, the Avalanche will go with Varly again today vs. Dallas. He is 2-0-0 with a 2.43 GAA and .931 SV% vs. the Stars this season and they will likely be without Tyler Seguin tonight.
Varlamov gave up five goals on 29 shots in the Avs’ loss to the Jets on Sunday. Varlamov has lost three in a row while posting a 2.47 GAA and a .918 SV%. In his first start against the Rangers, he allowed three goals on 33 in a 4-3 shootout loss back in November.
Schneider made 22 saves on 24 shots in the Devils 2-1 loss to the Oilers on Monday. Despite the loss, Schneider continues his superb play—he has gone 7–2-1 with a 1.73 GAA and .942 SV% in his last 10 starts. However, he will be in tough tonight as he draws the Blackhawks in Chicago.
Clutterbuck missed the last two games with an upper-body injury, but he will be back into the lineup tonight vs. the Maple Leafs. Clutterbuck will skate on the third line with Brock Nelson and Nikolay Kulemin.
Despite taking part in the morning skate, the Islanders will go with the same lineup that won on Sunday, which means Clutterbuck will miss his second straight game.
Clutterbuck missed Sunday’s game vs. the Sabres, but his presence at the morning skate suggests he could be back in tonight. Monitor his status after the session.
