Charlier McAvoy was seen practising in a regular jersey Monday

McAvoy was surprisingly on the ice in a non-contact jersey Monday after missing all of the 2022-23 season so far due to off-season shoulder surgery. It was a nice surprise as McAvoy was not expected back until closer to the new year. McAvoy enjoyed a breakout season in 2021-22, reaching double-digit goals (10) for the first time while putting up 56 points (10G/46A) in 78 games played.

Joonas Korpisalo will start a conditioning stint in Cleveland (AHL) Saturday

Korpisalo will head to Cleveland (AHL) for a conditioning start vs. Syracuse Saturday. From there it is expected that the 28-year-old will head up to Columbus to back up Elvis Merzlikins. Through seven career seasons, he has 76 wins in 164 starts while posting a .902 SV% and 3.04 GAA.

Swayman will start Thursday vs. the Red Wings.

Swaymans last start came over a week ago when he allowed six goals on 25 shots (.760 SV%) in a 7-5 loss to Ottawa. The 23-year-old netminder has struggled early on this season, posting a 5.40 GAA along with a .816 SV% while essentially losing the starting goalie battle to Linus Ullmark. He will face a Detroit team who is coming off a 6-2 loss Tuesday to New Jersey but has scored at a very efficient rate this season, ranking fifth in the NHL in GF/GP (3.67).

The Stars have recalled Matej Blumel from the Texas Stars (AHL)

Blummel has been dominating the AHL to start 2022-23, with five goals and three assists through his first five games showing he more than earned the call-up. The 22-year-old has yet to play a game in the NHL after being drafted in the 4th round of the 2019 NHL entry draft.

Korpisalo (hip) will likely start the season on injured reserve.

Korpisalo underwent hip surgery in March and did not appear in a preseason game. Korpisalo is at practice but is expected to start the season on IR and will continue to work to get back to 100 percent. Daniil Tarasov is expected to open the season as Elvis Merzlikins' backup.

Arvidsson (back) may miss the start of the regular season.

Arvidsson is working his way back from herniated disc surgery in mid-May. The original timetable was three-to-five months, and the Kings said he's on track for the back-end of that timetable. Gabriel Vilardi and Samuel Fagemo are two candidates to replace Arvidsson on the Kings' second line to start the season.

McAvoy (shoulder) is expected to be out until late November/early December.

McAvoy underwent a shoulder procedure in early June and the expected recovery was six months. McAvoy should miss roughly 20-to-25 games to open the season and Hampus Lindholm should play big minutes and could be the quarterback on the No.1 PP unit while McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk are on the mend.
