Shesterkin will be placed on IR with an upper-body injury.

Shesterkin was between the pipes for the entirety of Monday's 5-3 loss to the Florida Panthers but was placed on Injured Reserve on Tuesday due to an upper-body injury. A byproduct of poor team play, Shesterkin has struggled this season, posting an uncharacteristic 3.10 GAA and .906 SV% in 27 games (11-15-1). The 29-year-old Shesterkin will be sidelined until at least January 5th.

Bortuzzo (lower-body) has been placed on IR retroactive to December 10th.

Bortuzzo has been in and out of the lineup due to injuries this season and has not played since December 10th when he exited Utah's 5-4 loss to the Minnesota Wild due to a lower-body injury after playing only 6:57 time-on-ice. The 35-year-old Bortuzzo is averaging 11:03 time-on-ice and has two points (0G / 2A) in 15 games this season.

Eklund (upper-body) has been placed on IR.

Eklund exited last Monday's game with an upper-body injury after playing only 7:39 time-on-ice and has not played since. The 22-year-old forward is averaging 19:43 time-on-ice and has 27 points (7G / 20A) in 36 games this season. In a corresponding move, the Sharks recalled Collin Graf from the San Jose Barracuda (AHL).

Pettersson (lower-body) is likely to return on Tuesday in Detroit.

Pettersson has not played since suffering a lower-body injury on December 14th, missing six straight games, but will likely return to the lineup on Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings. The 28-year-old Pettersson has been a steadying force on the blueline for a Penguins club that has struggled defensively at times. He is averaging 21:47 time-on-ice, recording 13 points (2G / 11A), 56 blocks, and 36 hits in 32 games.

Ivan (upper-body) is considered week-to-week and has been placed on IR.

Ivan played a season-low 5:07 time-on-ice in Colorado's most recent game and was absent from practice on Monday and Tuesday, expecting to be out of the lineup on a week-to-week basis. The 22-year-old Czech forward has eight points (5G / 3A) in 37 games this season.

Guentzel (lower-body) practiced on Tuesday and is still considered day-to-day.

Guentzel did not play on Sunday due to a lower-body injury but appears to be making progress after practicing on Tuesday. The 30-year-old Guentzel has been terrific in his first season with Tampa Bay, scoring 37 points (20G / 17A) in 33 games. Tampa Bay returns to action on Thursday against the San Jose Sharks.

Pickering (concussion) practiced in full on Tuesday but will not play vs. Detroit.

Pickering is progressing towards a return from his concussion but will remain out of the lineup for a third straight game on Tuesday when they Penguins visit the Detroit Red Wings. The 20-year-old Pickering is averaging 15:47 time-on-ice, scoring two points (1G / 1A) in 14 games in his first NHL season.

Dumba (upper-body) will return vs. Buffalo on Tuesday.

Dumba has not played since December 8th, missing the last eight games. The 30-year-old Dumba has not acclimated to Dallas' system as anticipated, spending lots of time on the third defensive pair after beginning the campaign playing alongside Miro Heiskanen. Dumba has one point (0G / 1A) and is averaging 15:33 time-on-ice, his lowest total since his rookie season. Lian Bichsel was reassigned to Texas (AHL) on Monday, making room for Dumba's return to the lineup.

Holmstrom is out vs. Toronto and considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

The Islanders will be without Holmstrom on Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs due to an upper-body injury and will welcome Engvall back into the lineup. The 23-year-old Holmstrom has 22 points (9G / 13A) in 37 games this season and has been one of the top offensive contributors for the Islanders lately. He has 12 points (6G / 6A) in his last 14 games.

Letang (undisclosed) is expected to remain out on Tuesday in Detroit.

Letang was not at practice on Tuesday and will miss a second consecutive game on Tuesday due to an undisclosed injury. The veteran defenseman is averaging 23:24 time-on-ice and has 16 points (7G / 9A) in 34 games this season.

Matthews (upper-body) has been placed on IR retroactive to December 20th.

Matthews practiced as an extra forward on Monday but will miss a fifth consecutive game on Tuesday. The 27-year-old Matthews has had an injury-riddled 2024-25 campaign and is pacing for his lowest offensive output since his rookie season, with 23 points (11G / 22A) in 24 games.

Smith has been out of the lineup since suffering an injury in the third period of Chicago's December 12th game against the New york Islanders. The 35-year-old Smith has 10 points (6G / 4A) in 26 games while averaging 11:47 time-on-ice.

Martinez has been out of the lineup since December 7th but appears to be nearing a return to the Blackhawks lineup. The 37-year-old Martinez is averaging 20:05 time-on-ice, recording four points (1G / 3A), 38 blocks, and four hits in 15 games.
