In the much anticipated trade, Nash gets to go to a Rangers team looking to not only get tougher down low, but also create one of the top scoring lines in the East. Nash's potential to produce with other big money Rangers acquisitions - Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik - will significantly benefit the Rangers' Cup hopes and your fantasy team. Reminder that Gaborik is out for the first few months of the year recovering from surgery.

The Calgary Flames have signed defenceman Dennis Wideman to a five-year, $26.25 million contract after acquiring his rights from the Washington Capitals in exchange for blueliner Jordan Henry and a 2013 fifth-round draft pick.

Henry, 26, has no NHL experience.

Wideman finished in the top 10 among defencemen with 46 points, including 11 goals. He led all Capitals blueliners with 113 hits and 132 blocked shots.

The Canes acquired forward Jordan Staal from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Brandon Sutter, defensive prospect Brian Dumoulin and the eighth overall selection in this year's draft.

Despite the steep price, Staal is reunited with his brother and could be poised for a breakout season at only 24 years old.

NEWS: Capitals acquire center Mike Ribeiro from the Dallas Stars for Cody Eakin and a Second Round Draft Pick.

Ribeiro gives the Caps a Knuble-like veteran presence and some solid secondary scoring ability. This could be a sign the Caps are moving back towards a more offensive mindset.

TRADE: The rights to defenseman Brad Stuart have been traded to San Jose for Andrew Murray and a conditional pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

We knew this one was coming for a while as Stuart wanted to return back out West. Stuart shouldn't have any more value with the Sharks than he did with the Wings.

PIT acquires right to Tomas Vokoun from WSH for 7th rd pick. Which suggests Vokoun's new contract in PIT is likely done or will be shortly.

The Penguins needed some stability in goal following Fleury's poor play but we're currently unsure of how the goaltending situation in Pittsburgh will look in the upcoming season. At the very least, Vokoun can provide solid backup play and help reduce Fleury's workload.
