Gardiner returned to the Hurricanes lineup on Sunday but will come back out on Tuesday due to a back injury. Look for Jake Bean to draw back into the lineup to replace him on the third pairing and second power-play unit.
Dzingel had two goals and two assists in 11 games with the Hurricanes before being traded to Ottawa on February 13th. Dzingel, who had 126 points (62G / 64A) in 247 games with the Senators to start his career, will play on the fourth line to start.
Stepan dislocated his shoulder on February 23rd and suffered damage to his labrum. Stepan will undergo the surgery later this week and will miss the rest of the 2021 regular season.
Stepan was hurt early in Tuesday’s game vs. Montreal and the early prognosis “doesn’t look good” according to head coach DJ Smith. Expect Stepan to miss some time and look for Artem Anisimov to replace him on a line with Drake Batherson and Tim Stützle.
With Andersen missing a second straight game and Jack Campbell already out, the Maple Leafs will likely go with Michael Hutchinson vs. the Flames. The fact that Andersen is listed as day-to-day and not on IR suggests he could be back in the crease at some point this week.
Gardiner was a healthy scratch for the last three games but will draw back into the lineup Wednesday in Tampa Bay. Gardiner has seven assists in 15 games this season and will likely replace Haydn Fleury or Jake Bean.
