MacDonald is owed $25.75M over the next five years and if he clears waivers and is sent to the AHL, he will represent over $4M in dead cap space. After a breakout 2013-14 season, MacDonald has struggled since being traded and re-signing with the Flyers—he has just two goals and 14 assists (16 points) in 77 games with Philly.
Scrivens posted a 1.97 GAA and .929 SV% in three preseason games, but it wasn’t enough to beat out Anders Nilsson for the Oilers’ backup job. Scrivens was the Oilers’ starter last season, but will likely be the Condors’ starter this year.
The oft-injured Nikitin had 10 points (4G / 6A) in 42 games last year for the Oilers. He didn’t appear to be in the Oilers plans for 2015-16 after the emergence of Oscar Klefbom and the addition of Griffin Reinhart. If he clears waivers he is expected to be assigned to Oklahoma City (AHL).
Bickell, who was placed on waivers on Friday, cleared on Saturday at noon but head coach Joel Quenneville said Bickell will not be sent to Rockford (AHL) at this time. The Blackhawks have been trying to move Bickell, who carries a $4M cap-hit but has had an impossible time finding someone to take on the contract.
If Bickell clears waivers, the Blackhawks could send him to the AHL and save about $950K in cap space. Chicago reportedly tried to trade Bickell all summer but could not find a suitor for his $4M cap-hit.
Poulin, 25, spent the last four years with the Islanders organization after being drafted by them in the fifth round of the 2008 Entry Draft. During that span, Poulin was 18-25-3 with a 3.07 GAA and .899 SV% at the NHL level. Claiming him and cutting Ray Emery likely puts Poulin in as Ben Bishop’s backup to start the season while Andrei Vasilevskiy recovers from a blood clot.
Cunningham has been a healthy scratch in the last four games, so the Bruins placed him on waivers to send him to Providence. The 24-year-old is a hard working bottom-6 forward, who has two goals and one assist in 32 games with the Bruins.
McGinn recently returned to the Sharks lineup after missing time with a concussion. He has one goal and four assists in 33 games with San Jose this season. With all the trades the Coyotes are making, they need some bodies.
Erixon, 24, was a first round pick (23rd overall) back in 2009. He has never received a full chance to prove what he can do at the NHL level. He has one goal and five assists in 27 games with the Blue Jackets and Blackhawks this season. He will report to the Maple Leafs, not the Marlies.
Schlemko, 27, heads to his third team of the season after being claimed by Calgary. He has on goal and four assists in 25 games with the Coyotes and Stars so far this season. He will join his former Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL) teammate Kris Russell with the Flames.
Veilleux has gone goal and one assist in seven games since being recalled. The veteran has been placed on waivers with the intent of sending him to Iowa (AHL).
Bryzgalov has had a terrible season with the Ducks, so he is expected to go to the AHL, but he may choose to not report and could retire. There is no official word as to what will happen at this time.
With John Gibson winning three of five during his call-up and Frederik Andersen set to return from injury, the Ducks have placed Bryzgalov on waivers in order to activate Andersen from IR. Having gone 1-4-1 with a 4.19 GAA and .847 SV%, we might have seen the last of Bryzgalov in the NHL.
Gibbons (knee) has not played since December 18th and the Blue Jackets likely want to send him to Springfield (AHL) but he will need to clear waivers in order for them to do so.
McMillan, 24, was the 85th overall pick in 2008. He is from nearby Richmond, British Columbia, which is just 30 minutes from Vancouver. He had three points (1G / 2A) in 50 games with the Coyotes this season. He has 35 points (14G / 21A) in 163 career NHL games.
McMillan has just one goal and two assists to go along with a minus-18 rating in 50 games this season. Claiming Mark Arcobello off of waivers meant the Coyotes needed to clear a roster spot.
