The Avalanche have signed Kurtis MacDermid to a two-year contract extension worth $1.975 million ($987.5K AAV).

MacDermid is a rugged defenseman, who can also suit up at forward for the Avalanche in a pinch. He provides almost nothing offensively, posting just 22 points (8G / 14A) in 171 career NHL games, but brings toughness and flexibility to the Avalanche lineup.

The Canadiens have signed Emil Heineman to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Heineman was originally a second-round pick of the Panthers in 2020. He was traded to Calgary as part of the Sam Bennett trade and then traded to Montreal as a part of the Tyler Toffoli trade. The 20-year-old winger scored 11 goals with five assists (16 points) in 38 games with Leksands IF (SHL) this season.
